Happy Family

Today I got yelled at by a homeless woman.

It really took me a second to realize she was talking to me because she was yelling ridiculous things.
Things like, "I don't support your lifestyle!"
(How does she know I'm Mormon?
"You shouldn't be raising children!"
(Well, I don't have kids, but I think Mormons make great, loving parents.

And then I realized this is what she was looking at:

And I realized she thought Lisa and I were partners
and that we must be raising two darling little girls together.

Let me clarify. I am straight and I am open to dates with MEN ONLY.
And these are Lisa's nieces.

Today Lisa's sister, Traci, asked if we would watch the girls while she picked up some things for work. We happily agreed because
1.) We love Traci and
2.) We love the girls.
So we took them for lunch and ice cream before returning them to their mother.

Unfortunately about three minutes after leaving us, Traci's car had other plans for her afternoon. And those plans involved two FBI Security guards and a kind stranger pushing the smoking car across Pennsylvania Ave. Yep, the car broke down.

While Traci called AAA and her husband, and Lisa metro-ed home to Arlington for her car, and roommate Katie met her at the metro with her car so she could drive back into the city to save the day and so Traci could get home,

I took Leah to the Natural History Museum:

The car will be fine. And hanging out with kids is always a good way to spend the day.

And I guess I always have a back up plan...

Kidding! But let me remind you, I am:
1.) Open to dates.
2.) Men only.
3.) I am open to dates.

Easter Bunny Sighting!

Note: I have no idea why this wasn't actually posted around Easter time, so I'm posting it now.

We were visited by the Easter Bunny a few weeks ago!

She was such a sneaky little bunny but we still managed to get a picture with her.

Hope you all had a Happy Hoppy Easter too!

The 80's Prom We Never Had*

This post is best served hot with a side of pictures.

(drumroll please...)

Presenting! The Roommates!
And their lovely thrifted dresses!

Here we have Katie, in her sleek and sequenced evening wear. The well placed hip pleats and poufs only enhance her shapely curves while the sequenced bodice is not only modest but subtly flirty. Miss Katie enjoys playing volleyball (watch out for her spike!), art projects and teaching children how to read and enjoy history. She’s definitely one to snag!

Miss Lisa here always keeps it sassy with her well placed tulle headband. Her fashion sense is never off, pairing a bright patterned top and sleek black bottom, makes it an ideal dress for evenings out or a day at the office. Lisa saves the world from HIV/AIDS  through her melodic karaoke voice. But back off guys! Rumor has it, she’s taken!

Business casual best describes this summer dress with its cheery colors and coordinating necklace. The perfect dress to wear to an evening at the park or to church the next day. Miss Lauren's excellently coiffed side bun only adds to the overall ambiance. And don’t let that stern face fool you! She enjoys cooking, reading and spending time with friends.

Miss Deborah represents our fun and flirty evening wear, the forest green sleeve puffs coordinate spectacularly with the beaded and sequenced bodice. The height of her bangs creates a lovely, enviable silhouette. Debbie packs a mean tennis serve and cooks up a delicious Egg in a Basket. Better snag her fast guys! She won’t be single for long!

The jewel of our show, Miss Holly elegantly transforms this ivory dress turning it into a spectacular spectacle of the 80’s at their finest. Her manicured bangs and French braid pull the look together in a perfectly simple yet gorgeous manner. The beading on the bodice pairs excellently with the hemline, and the angle of the shoulders. Holly enjoys rock climbing, brisk walks and drawn out cinematic romances, she’s looking for her real life Darcy.

*Clarification on the evening:
  • done for a Thrift Store dance held by our ward
  • the dance was awkward, the music was good, and we were by far the best dressed
  • dresses, with the exception of Katie's (DI), were purchased at Unique
  • hair done by Lisa
  • make up partially done by me
  • jewelry courtesy of Lisa's grandmother
unfortunately we only got a group picture at the end of the night and Holly didn't come home with us, but still. we're looking pretty good...

Rebecca

Last weekend after the Scottish Christmas parade, my photographer roommate Rebecca and I took a stroll through Old Town Alexandria and took pictures. Yeah, pretty much I'm a model. I'll be on ANTM Season 17. Look for me.

Check out the whole post dedicated to ME on her blog: Rebecca Reed Photography

Rebecca is really fabulous, easy to work with and has a good eye for pretty things. (cough, cough, like me) She currently works with and assists DC photographer Kate Headley as a video-ographer and second shooter here in DC. And she has my dream volunteer job as an information desk worker at the American Art Museum and Portrait Gallery her in DC. (Seriously, makes me jealous all the time.) She was even featured on the Smithsonian blog with some of her work she did for an event. And, if you've heard of the blog Rockstar Diaries, she took the pictures for the writer's headband shop. Pretty much Rebecca is fantastic, and she gets to do cool things: like be a photographer for a non profit children's group and meeting Barak.

And now, the good news, for anyone interested in getting pictures taken over the holidays, Rebecca will be in Utah from December 15-January 5. She's offering special holiday rates for portraits: teen, children, adult, engagement and family. If you're even a little bit interested, you should contact her for more information and pricing at rebeccareedphotography@gmail.com.

PS. She even Photoshopped out the zit I had on my cheek. Now that's true roommate love there.
