1. That it was Saturday and I wasn't at work.
2. That I had peanut butter to go with my apple. (Preferably the delicious honey roasted peanut butter that gets made in to peanut butter right before your eyes at Whole Foods.)
3. That I was in Eugene with my family because CAMI GOT HOME LAST NIGHT FROM FINLAND!!

There's no crying at work
Embarrassing moment confession of the week. Or rather of LAST week.
Last Friday was a really quiet day in the office. I was sitting at my desk reading blogs and Whitney posted a video that made me cry. I was crying so much in fact that I had to keep stopping, pausing the video and collecting myself. But finally I decided that I just needed to finish watching the video (it is good, I promise). So I watched it longer than usual, stopping only because I had tears rolling down my cheeks. (I know, I know, I'm a huge cry baby.)
Right as I try to collect myself-- knowing that my cheeks are probably a little tear stained, and I know my skin is probably blotchy red (because it does that when I cry), and my eyes were still definitely watery-- the really really good looking intern in my office walks up to my desk to ask me a few questions. All I wanted to do was laugh and explain (because I'm an over explainer like my mother) but he left as soon as the questions were answered and vacated the vicinity of my desk. Oops! That's what I get for taking a break from work and procrastinating!
It also reminds me of a time from my mission when we all went around the circle saying what we liked about a missionary who was leaving and I started crying because I was going to miss her. When we were all done going around the room one of the elders said to me, "Wow Sister Richey, you look like you just got dumped!" (He was really tactful... nope.) But, I ran to the mirror to see great mascara streaks all the way down my face. (Luckily there was no mascara with the intern incident.)

Visitors
I love when people visit me (hint hint) and I don't even mind being a tourist for a bit. Liz is visiting from NYC with her brother and after work last night I met them at the Air and Space Museum before we headed up to Good Stuff Eatery. It really is "good stuff". I got the 'shroom burger (not feeling like meat last night) and we split a Peaches n' Cream shake. So delicious. It was one of those meals that despite being totally stuffed to the brim, we still wanted to keep eating. But maybe that was because the company was so fantastic. After dinner we walked all the way down Capital Hill, along The Mall and weaved through the monuments to the back of the Lincoln, and then walked up to the Foggy Bottom metro where I caught the train home. (I wanted to see how far we walked, so I mapped it out. 3.8 miles!)
Here is Liz and I at the Capital. I love her an can't wait for her wedding on Sept 10!
Evolution of a picture:
PS. The last time Liz visited me in DC was my very first weekend on the East Coast. (So almost exactly a year ago.) Let's all let her know that isn't acceptable and that she should be reprimanded! And, thank her brother for having an iPhone so he could take and email me the pictures.

Satur-nesday
This morning I was tired. Really tired. I got home from the gym last night around 7:45, opened my new bag that came in the mail, grabbed anything I could to eat because I decided to see Step Up 3 (in 2D) with my roommate and got home later than my usual bed time. I woke up annoyed today because I heard my roommate walking around downstairs. You see, my bedroom is the first room off the stairs, so if anyone is walking around downstairs on our wood floors, I can hear it. My initial reaction was, "Why can't Lisa sleep in??" (Lisa is getting old. She can't sleep in no matter how late she stays up. I on the other hand have trained my body to go back to sleep even after getting up to use the bathroom. Can't sleep if I have to go.) I grabbed my extra pillow, put it over my head to block out the noise of shoes on wood floors but, as I closed my eyes to again enter peaceful sleep I realize that it's NOT Saturday but Wednesday and that I needed to get up for work and instantly I was in a panic because if someone was walking around downstairs that was probably Lisa who was ready to walk out the door for work!
Luckily it was just Debbie going to the gym and it was only 7:11 and I still had enough time to get in the shower, eat breakfast, do my hair, put on my make up, wash my salad container, make my salad, run out the door and still make the bus. Whew!
Worst news of the day though? The fact that it is Wednesday and not Saturday.
Best news of the day? Knowing that I have good things to look forward to this weekend. (One of them starting with a Red and ending with a Skins game.)

Lacy's DC Visit
Thank goodness for Lacy and her new photographing hobby because we have lots of pictures from the weekend. Not only do these represent the fun weekend, but yesterday at work Lisa and I spent about 20 minutes going through them and laughing really hard.
Brace yourself for a lot of pictures.
Walking to the Metro on Pennsylvania Ave after work and stopping for some fun.
Saturday was spent in Annapolis.
Where we found a cool laundromat and took a plethora of bad pictures with the self timer. Here are a few. Click to enlarge but I'm not making myself large on purpose. You can do that yourself.
Lisa has a bad sense of direction. (Shhhhhh! Keep that a secret! We don't want any boys to know that until after they're hooked on her!) And, because our Annapolis trip was pretty spur of the moment, we hadn't worked out anywhere to eat before we went. So we decided to just trust the GPS to take us somewhere. (Bad idea.) So, we tried to find a restaurant by the name of ______'s Cafe on the Harbor. What the GPS took us to was actually some old folks residential area with a restaurant that was going to be way out of our price range. But, Lacy got this beautiful picture, we skipped out and ate at some crappy looking Mexican place that we thought was going to be good. What we got instead was bland Mexican food with a side of undercooked rice and a waiter that thought we were idiots. At least we had some Naval Academy boys sightings!
Sunday after church we went to go to Arlington Cemetery. Well, naps came first, and then a delicious BBQ dinner complete with peaches, tomatoes and cucumbers bought from Eastern Market and that pushed out Cemetery visit back and before we knew it, it was closed. So, we went to the Iwo Jima Memorial instead.
| Meradyth, me (with HUMONGOUS hair), Lisa, Lacy. |
Monday night we walked along the Potomac river in Old Town Alexandria after getting dinner at Whole Foods. Yep, we got dinner at the grocery store. And it was good.
Thanks for a wonderful weekend Lac, and for the pictures! Kocham cie!

Fashion
Good Idea: Wearing a t-shirt paired with a necklace and pencil skirt to work. (The t-shirt is MUCH cooler.)
Bad Idea: Making that t-shirt a gray one.
By the time I got to work this morning I had to fan myself for a good 20 minutes before feeling comfortable. I can't believe how hot it is. The humidity is impossible and I can't commute without feeling like I'm swimming through the air, or showing up for work looking like I was swimming either!

One Year Down
Last year on this day August 3rd I flew across the country with my two suitcases and moved into my house. I was reading back through the posts from that first month. It seems so long ago. I still don't know what I want in life (other than the usual: be happy, have inner peace, be spiritual, have my own family, blah blah blah); and I don't know where I want my career to go (sometimes it sounds a lot more fun to work at Anthropologie and make books all day long--though not together). But I know I want to stay here and I know the move was the best decision.
And to be narcissistic, here are my favorite memories from the last year. (In no particular order.)
Thanksgiving
Amish Country
A Myriad of Transportation Mishaps
Living in DC and it's perks
Getting ready for the future
Embarrassing Moments
Trips to NYC: A, B, C
Family Visiting
SNOW!SNOW!SNOW!
Cute Roommates
And I'm hoping next year will be even better with new things on the horizon, hopefully things I don't even know about yet!
