Candid Picture

I think I've made it clear before that I don't do well in candid dancing photos (exhibits A, B, C). So when this picture popped up on facebook this morning,

I was just speechless. Yeah, that's me in the middle with my eyes half open. Attractive Lauren. Attractive.

Bus Love

Some people hate public transportation. I don't mind it. I never have really minded it. Yeah it's more convenient to walk out the door and get in your car and drive away, but if you plan things right (read: make your schedule fit the bus schedule) you will find public transportation really convenient. And, you can make friends with the bus drivers.

Example 1: I used to try and take the express bus in the mornings, that resulted in lots of running. Now I've completely given up on that and go for the one about 10 minutes later. This serves a dual purpose. First, it allows me to work out in the morning, make a lunch, get ready and eat breakfast without feeling rushed. Second, the express bus always had a new bus driver now we have the same driver everyday. He knows us. Knows we eat toast in the mornings and knows we're prone to be late. He waits for us when he sees us walking down the street. It's pretty great.

Example 2: In the winter I take the bus home a lot since I don't like to walk home in the dark after the gym. The 7:00 bus driver knows me as does the 7:30 bus driver. Last night I caught the 7:00 bus home (I could have walked I suppose, it is light outside now...) but my bus passed the other bus and the driver waved through the window specifically at me. If I do walk home, and I probably will now that its light after 7, he will probably honk the bus horn and wave out the window too. And one of the best things about this is they know my stop, so if I get engrossed in a book and forget to pull the cord? They still stop for me. Awesome!

So, moral of the story, if you have to take public transportation, it's always better to become friends with the driver.

Good Things

Even though the weather is gorgeous this week I'm heading out to warmer weather
for a last minute weekend trip:

I'm meeting my sister, parents and cousins down in Orlando.
I can't decide if I'm more excited to
a.) see my family,
b.) go to Harry Potter World again
c.) enjoy summer weather.

Actually, maybe I'll combine all three...

Hooray!

Confessions

  1. Even though I've loosely keep up with BYU basketball this season, I haven't watched a single game.
  2. I think the cashier yesterday gave me a 20 in change instead of a 5.
  3. My legs were shaved today for the first time since November.*
  4. I ran almost 3 miles yesterday for the first time in months and it wasn't easy.
  5. Sometimes when I'm listening to my iPod at work, I'm actually listening to a book.

*They were waxed throughout the winter though. Yes, Mother, I still have good hair hygiene.

Frizz

Note: The following conversation happened not five minutes ago.

"Chil'! Wus goin' on wich yo' hair ta-day?"
"Um, I don't know, what's wrong with it?"
"I ain't neva seen yo hair so frizzy!"
"Really? It's always frizzy. Is today especially bad?"
"Yesta-day wuz bad too but I jis thought you be havin' a bad hair day."
"But it's bad today too?"
"Yeah. Girl, I goch yo back. You be lookin' like Hermione."
"Oh, ok, thanks, I guess I'll put it up."

"How does that look?"
"Betta than the friiiiizzz."

The hair is up, and I don't really know what it looked like before. But I'll need to make sure the frizz stays in check from now on!

Pie

I have this need to bake. I don't know what it is. Maybe its because I like to create. I should probably find a hobby that's more gentle, and forgiving on my waistline. Cake is good, and I feel like it's pretty hard to mess up a cake. Right? But pie? Pie is hard. Actually, let me rephrase that, pie CRUST is hard. There's a science to it, to make the crust flaky and buttery and hard enough that it doesn't all fall apart as you dish the pie up but also is easy enough to cut with the side of the fork.

If you haven't already guessed, today is Pi(e) Day (you know, 3.14 or March 14th) and my former aspirations of holding a party where everyone brings pie and maybe having a contest (ala Rockstar Diaries) totally didn't happen and I'm kind of bummed out about it.

BUT, that being said, that doesn't mean I can't still attempt to perfect pie crust any time of the year.

Marriage?

I caught the bouquet this weekend!

It helped that I probably had a good six inches on the other bridesmaids...
But still, it means I should be getting married soon.

Miss Lacy

Miss Lacy here is getting married this weekend. And I'm so excited for the wedding.

Remember when she came to visit me in August? She came out partly to visit me and partly to visit a guy. But guess what? She's not marrying that guy! She's marrying that guy above. And the other guy? He's also getting married in two weeks. Funny how life surprises you.

But, she's probably going to be the cutest, prettiest bride out there. Hopefully I'll remember to take some pictures. I do have a camera...

New Glasses

Got new glasses yesterday.
They're purple.
And I feel like a hipster.
But I like them.

Tłusty czwartek or Fat Thursday

Today is Fat Thursday in Poland. The Thursday before Lent begins. And they make donuts, delicious, fresh, tasty donuts all over the city. And I want is a warm pączek (pronounced pon-check) with raspberry filling. (Not a rose filled one, I feel like I'm eating perfume.) Or maybe a chocolate one. My last year in Poland we ran into the elders at the best donut place in town. You can tell we were really happy:

And that is the only photo documentation I have of Tłusty czwartek. Half open eyes, half my companion's face, chocolate covered lips but big smiles. It was a GOOD donut. That place was so good. So good in fact that I just had to get a picture out in front before I went home:

Gosh I look dorky... But what I wouldn't give for a hot pączek or hot drożdżowa from Drożdżowa Chata. Mmm!

Found this in the scanner

We took this picture at the Andy Warhol museum in Pittsburgh. I always thought Warhol's art was interesting. But after the museum I seem to think he was a little disturbed. But, we got a fun picture out of it.
