Not my morning

This morning I woke up before my alarm. That always annoys me. Then because I woke up early I was thrown off my usual routine. I took a leisurely shower, because I had time; I made oatmeal for breakfast, because I had time; I made delicious sandwiches for me and my roommate, because I had time; and I took my time getting ready, because I had time. Nope, scratch that last one, I did not have time, I forgot I needed to be at work early (read: on time) and so that resulted in my throwing on a dress (this one actually), shoving my glasses on my face, pulling my hair up and throwing my make up in my bag.

I ran to the bus stop because my Next Bus tracker said it was going to be there in 2 minutes. Well that 2 minutes turned into 1 minute and then turned into "Arriving" and then turned into 25 minutes without a bus ever showing up. Luckily it was still earlier than I normally get going so I walked to the metro. (It's a 15 minute walk that I'd rather avoid in the summer due to my tendency to sweat buckets.)

When I finally arrived to work I was late 10 minutes, sweaty around the collar, hair a mess, glasses fogging up from humidity, and feeling gross.

Hopefully it will get better. At least I have a good sandwich for lunch...

Turku, Finland

My family spent the week before Finland in Sweden so it was coordinated for me to meet them at the Helsinki airport. I flew in and my sisters were waiting for me just beyond baggage claim. From there, I scarfed down bread and cheese and ham and chocolate as we drove to Turku, which was once the capital of Finland before the capital was moved to Helsinki in the 19th Century. The next day we visited the medieval cathedral, toured a preserved village, Turku Castle, took a boat ride to see the islands in the sound, and hit up the local Medieval Festival for dinner. We discovered that we really like the yogurt called rahka (translated to English as something called quark), tried to keep ourselves hydrated and I enjoyed being in Europe again.

It was a really cool city, and a really hot day. We were exhausted from speed walking from the main part of town to the castle and then back to the boat we hoped to catch. All the way we complained about the heat and the speed and the length of the "short walk". I was totally sweaty by the time we got to all our destinations. But at the end of the night we were able to relax on the boat and see the pretty islands and all get sunburned at 9:00 in the evening. I really liked Turku.

275

This post was supposed to go on my Things I'd Send Lisa blog but I obviously messed that up.
But never mind that, I love these dresses still.
If you liked this post. Check out the other posts over there on that other blog.
You'll probably like it over there.

i'm so obsessed with these dresses
that i can hardly contain my glee

It's soooooo hooooot!

(The title has been intended to be read in a whiny voice.)

Let me tell you somethin', it is so hot today. I was sweatin' within one second of walkin' out my door. And I look extra sweaty too because my face sweats. A lot.

Exhibit A:

Yep, that's a picture of my sweaty nose. Who sweats on their nose?? Who takes a picture of their nose??

Today I made two choices while gettin' ready for work. The first affected the second. The first choice was a stupid one (wear a backpack) the second was a wise choice (wear a white shirt). Had I not had on that white shirt I most surely would have had a visible sweaty back. It's almost laughable that I picked up a gray shirt and considered wearing it for about, point one seconds.

Now, it has been 90 minutes since I first walked out my door this mornin', eating an egg in a basket that Debbie so sweetly made me, and my hair is now finally starting to dry. I've already gulped down two full bottles of water, I'm dreading the trek up the street to go to the bank*, and am not actually looking forward to a weekend without a pool. It's going to be miserable!

On a much cooler note, I borrowed my sister's ice cream maker last weekend and have yet to return it.** Soooo, we made Avocado Gelato (Iron Chef competition), Blueberry Frozen Yogurt (with fresh picked blueberries) and Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream. We are literally obsessed*** with it.

Have a lovely weekend ya'll! Stay cool. And yes, I wrote ya'll. You'd think I was from Texas or somethin' but for some reason, maybe the heat, I felt like most of this post was written with a southern accent. Now read it again with a twang.

*someone stupid (me) somehow had their debit card stolen (or picked up off the ground when the stupid person (me) didn't actually get the card back in their wallet) and treated a stranger to lunch, gas, and groceries before the bank suspected unusual activity and put a stop on the card

**You might not get it back till you ask for it Jess...

***something else I'm obsessed with: Jimmy Fallon, Justin Timberlake and their history of rap. Part 1. Part 2.

Post Edit: Check this puppy out:

I should have stayed home...

Polo

On Saturday we went to a polo match at the Great Meadow Polo Club. We watched the first match on the grass on our blankets (without the wine and picnic like everyone else around, oops). The second match we found spots to stand and watch on the opposite end of the arena. It was way better to stand on that end because we could actually see the match! We even had to back away from our spots a few times because the horse and rider were so close. So close in fact that I got a mini mouthful of dirt when I screamed cheered as they galloped past.

I definitely want to go again, but next time, bring along a picnic!

P.S. #3 in the black? He was really handsome. But obviously no William, or Harry, or Harry + William.

Snapshots from Finland

Pictures are from Turku Castle, a ferry ride around the islands, Rauma, Vaasa, Tampere tower overlook and Helsinki.
 All taken on my phone.

Pictures from camera to come as soon as I get on the ball and put them on my computer.
Can you tell which pictures were taken late at night and which ones weren't?
Take a guess, I'll tell you next time I post which ones were taken after 9.

p.s. very top right hand picture? check out my mom in the background. shhh... don't tell her I pointed it out, but we got our posing from her.

8 hours later

And I'm still thinking about the end.
