I'm back!

I have tons to post about. I want to start tonight, but I think I'll have to wait until tomorrow. For now I have 221 posts to wade through on my google reader. (And no I will not be reading them all, except of course if it's your post, then of course I'll read it.)

But this week I want to post about:
  • Yosemite
  • Hikes
  • Epiphanies
  • the latest book I'm reading
  • and my 25th birthday
Right now though, I'm going to get going on my google reader. (I can't stand having something unread in my inbox.)

"I'm gettin' married in the..." sometime

I caught* the bouquet!

Here's a picture of the cake from the reception. It was incredible:

The whole reception was an Indian theme. There were lots of saris and curry. The cake had cardamom and a mango filling between layers. It was delicious. Everything was delicious. And my feet hurt from dancing. (Though they probably don't hurt as much as the poor little girl I stepped on while dancing. Blasted heels!)

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of the bride with her real wedding dress on.
This is her go home with her husband dress. But her real wedding dress was beautiful and lacy.
(Left to right: Bianca, Stephanie, Emily the bride, me and Maret--who was adopted in)

*And when I say I caught the bouquet, I really mean that I was handed the bouquet. I asked the bride if she would be throwing the bouquet as it was going to be my main goal to keep someone else from getting it (cough, cough, Bianca) just to be funny. She told me she wasn't going to be doing that as it was a vain, pagan ritual. So she asked if I wanted to take it home since it would just sit around not being enjoyed while she was on her honeymoon. After giving it to me, we decided that it should be done properly and she threw it to me. Granted, I was only two feet away and then after making a slightly big deal about catching the bouquet we had to reenact it for the photographer and the rest of the nosy wedding reception attenders. I'm just happy I got a pretty bunch of flowers! Hooray for me! And according to tradition, I'm going to be the next to get married! (And that really doesn't have to be soon, it just will be the next. Besides, I only have to beat out Bianca, and that could be any time because she's too busy with med school for something in the near near future.)

Emily

Miss Emily got married this morning. The wedding was so nice.
There were tears were shed around the entire room.
This evening will be her reception and I'm so excited.
Emily's fabulous and I'm so happy for her!

Here are some pictures of us past and present that I found and thought were funny:

Young Women's Campout, Oregon Coast (I think I was 14 or 15).
Emily is 2nd from the left in the back. I'm next to her, 3rd one in.
Also featured, Stephanie to the right.

I'm the second from the left and Emily's the second from the right.

Happy today

I'm making a healthy Chicken Parmesan tonight courtesy of The Biggest Loser cookbook. Hopefully it tastes good. But I thought I'd write about what's making me happy today while it cooks:

1. I have Viva La Vida playing as I cook. I love this CD. There is something about it that makes me so happy. It makes me think of Jerusalem. I think that's because the CD came out just a couple weeks before I left or maybe it's because Viva La Vida says, "I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing..." It makes me think of my sisters too. Coldplay came to Salt Lake in November and we went to the concert. Now Cami's on her way to Finland and Emma's in London and it makes me think of them.

2. Speaking of Cami and Emma, I got to talk to both of them today. Emma told me all about London and all the plays she's gone to see. She saw Jude Law in Hamlet the other night, and said he was really good. She also told me about visiting the Portrait Gallery and the British Museum, and it has me super jealous. And Cami finally gets to leave the MTC after a two week delay thanks to Swine flu. She called from Salt Lake and again from Chicago before boarding the plane for London. (No they aren't going to meet up. Cami said it would be too hard to see Emma.) She sounds really good, and hearing her say Finnish words and phrases sound like she's making up sound combinations.

Days of the Week

I don't particularly like Saturdays. Maybe I will when I'm working 40 hours a week, but I don't like them. Maybe it's because I don't get many emails. People don't update their blogs as much so I'm left to find other things to waste my time on, like cleaning my room, or cleaning the kitchen, or vacuuming (and I hate vacuuming, but not as much as I hate sweeping). We hiked Pisgah again today. It seems that even if I'm not working that hard, I still have an intense propensity to sweat like a profusely. There's nothing to do but let it come. But despite having the time to do a two hour hike, and getting home with lots of time to do lots of productive things, I just want to climb back in bed and sleep. Although, I did finish transferring phone numbers over from my old cell phone to my new cell. It was a tedious process that could have been avoided if my old phone hadn't have been acting up causing the phone/information transfering system to not work. I had more numbers on my phone than the rest of my family and all their numbers tranfered over. In the words of Liz, "Why I outta!"

Monday, Wednesday and Thursday are the days I get to be with my mom. (Although last week I worked so much that I didn't get as much Mom time as I'd have liked.) But these days usually consist of a run, Denise Austen ab video (this is hilarious because her eyes get really big when she talks about "slimming and trimming that waistline"), swim, and various chores. A second workout might be done in the evening after I make dinner. I'm not a good planner-aheader when it comes to making dinner, so in the past I always had a bowl of cereal or something quick. My mom's making me cook dinner so I'll get in a cooking habit. I have to say though, that's it's a lot more fun to cook for five than for one.

Tuesdays and Fridays I work at my Dad's office. The best part of the entire day is that there's a patient that comes in those days for a specific treatment. He's cute. He's young. But not too young, just a couple years older than me young. Perfect. (Most of the patients in the office are old coming in to have skin cancers removed etc.) Last week I heard he wouldn't be coming in anymore and was disappointed. But, on Tuesday, the door opened, and lo and behold, it was him. An enthusiastic "Hi!" came out of my mouth before I had time to evaluate and reel in my excitement. But it was a good thing as we chatted a little, and then he watched me from his waiting room seat while I sat at the front desk. I love Tuesdays. It gets me through the rest of the afternoon and gets me out of bed early enough to get cute for Fridays. Yesterday I wasn't at the front desk or oven in the vicinity of the waiting room when the other front desk gal came in to tell me, "Your weatherman's here..." (Oh yeah, the patient happens to do the early morning weather on one of the local TV stations. I have yet to see him do it. I can't quite drag myself out of bed between 5-7 am to watch it. I get up sometime between 7-7:30 and rush to get out the door sometime before work at 8. And I'm inevitably late. Everyday.) Ok, back to "my weatherman". Thanks to the gal at the front, I not only got a good look at "my weatherman" while he listened to his iPod in the waiting room, I also got a little smile and giddiness to last me the rest of the day, and ties me over till Tuesday.

Sundays are nice only because I don't have to do anything. It's refreshing not having a calling at church and not having to worry about who is an who isn't at church, if everyone is ok. It's wonderful to sit with Emily and do miniature hand actions to go along with the hymns. I like to think that it's just entertaining, but clearly we're getting more value out of the songs as we really ponder the words and how we can apply them to our hand actions *cough* to our lives. After church consists of sleeping, and it's heavenly.

So, for all you who wondered what I do everyday, there it is.

tired

So I'm a big kid now. I have my plane ticket bought, I just worked a 40 hour week, I have rent to pay and a few other minor expenses. But I'm still just a big kid, or maybe big baby, which was evidenced by my outburst this morning.

Yesterday was my sister's 16th birthday. She got sick and I picked her up from school early (during my lunch of course). She threw up all afternoon. What a great way to spend your birthday right? But she did get to open her presents later which included Step Up 2 and a feather headband from me. (The headbands came in a three pack--Target--and I kept two for myself. What kind of present giving sister am I?) But we stayed up late watching the entire movie and all I wanted to do afterward was dance. When I got up to bed I had the same exhausted feeling I feel whenever I come back from a particularly rowdy dance party. (Usually the one where I'm out of control, dancing on couches, jumping into dance circles of people I don't know, moving my body like a cyclone, and walking it out like an absolute maniac.) But I couldn't fall asleep. Just like I can't do when I leave a good party. I think I talked on the phone after one till three or four in the morning because I was so wired. It's a good thing I didn't have any caffeine or I would stay up all night! So, back to last night. I laid in bed contemplating the mysteries of life, not, but tried to will myself to sleep. Evenually it worked because this morning I got woken up by my dad telling me one of his office workers was sick and that I would need to come in and work for her. I started crying. It wasn't just a regular throat hurting, tears welling up in the eyes cry--you know, the ones that start when you're saying goodbye, or trying not to cry in front of a group, or when you're speaking in church, or when you're watching a movie. This was an all out, sob. I rolled over in bed and the tears just came as my body shook, my mind angry that I thought I was going to get a day off and I hadn't slept enough and I knew I was going to be running around on my feet all day taking care of patients. I eventually forced myself out of bed, told my dad I could probably be there by 8:30, looked for my scrubs, and climbed in the shower. I was still teary, but now they were angry tears filled with emotion. I grumbled about how dumb it is that the gal who is "sick" just had a four day weekend, then worked one day and then wants another off. She gets a four day weekend every weekend! Interrupting my literal crying and moaning was a knock, my mom, telling me that the "sick" lady was going to work. I huffed in frustration, this time because it would have been nice to know this before I got in the shower so that I could have climbed back into bed and slept more, but the water had sufficiently done it's job and woken me up. I put on my gym clothes so I'm ready for my run with Pups, our dog.

The moral of the story: Don't bother me when I'm tired.

Big changes

I made the ultimate life changing purchase two nights ago:

A one-way plane ticket to Washington DC. I'm headed out August 3rd.

Why so late? Because I decided I couldn't give up on the family trips. Freshman year of college I missed the trip to British Columbia, and another to Paris (my uncle was in charge of the BYU Study Abroad), then while on my mission I missed a trip to Yellowstone. Last summer I missed a neat trip to the coast (so what I was in Jerusalem, I still missed it!). And this year I didn't want to miss the Yosemite trip the last week of June or the Quebec trip in July. They could be some of my very last ones. It's going to be a busy summer and I'm really excited!
